Wildlife Sanctuaries in Goa

Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is the smallest of all the sanctuaries in Goa. It is covered with moist deciduous forests, and has a rich collection of flora and fauna. This little sanctuary boasts about Mini Zoo, Deer Safari Park, Elephant ride, Rose Garden, Botanical Gardens, Nature Education Centre and Eco-Tourism Cottages.

Mhadei wildlife sanctuary is high in biodiversity and is famous for being a home to Royal Bengal Tigers, three highest peaks in Goa- Sonsogod (3369 feet), Talache Sada (2664 feet) and Vageri(2378 feet)and twin waterfalls. For bird-watchers and wildlife-photography-lovers this sanctuary is nothing less than a Paradise!

Salim Ali Sanctuary is Goa’s only bird sanctuary which is named after India's best-known ornithologist. This wetland not only attracts locals’ birds but also migratory ones. A three-storeyed watch tower located right inside the sanctuary provides a panaromic view of the sanctuary - every birdwatcher's ecstasy!

Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary is the biggest sanctuaries of Goa that covers 240-sq-kms of thick forest clad slopes on the Western Ghats. This sanctuary is rich in wildlife and has over 120 bird species recorded. The sanctuary is particularly known for its Leopards, Elephants, Deer’s & Gaur or Indian Bison.

This is Goa’s second largest sanctuary that boasts more about its exotic collection of deciduous trees than the wildlife sightings. Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is full of such dense trees that the sunlight struggles to reach the ground. There is 25m high tree-top watchtower that gives a visitor breathtakingly beautiful sight.

This sanctuary which came to life to protect the western ghats is extremely significant for being a source of fresh water. It has semi and ever green trees which make its dense forest. An eclectic range of flora and fauna resides in this sanctuary, and hence it is a major attraction for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers as well.
