November is the time for festivals. Diwali will be celebrated on November 6th this year. On the eve of Diwali, the Narkasurs (demon effigies), which are designed days before the actual date, are paraded on the streets of Goa before they are burnt to ash. Several competitions are organised & prizes are awarded to the best Narkasur effigies before they are burnt down.
Some of the festive highlights include cultural programmes, folk dancing, houses decorated with traditionally crafted lamps & rangoli designs and ofcourse the spectacular display of fireworks. Traditional preparations of rice coconut jaggery & cashew are a delight to eat ;Fau’ a special dish is prepared in five different ways and the popular Goan ‘Neuri’ is made either sweet or spicy.
The Diwali celebrations conclude with the Tripurari Poornima boat festival which will be held in Goa this year on Nov. 22nd at Vuthalapur, Sankhali.
The 49th Edition of the prestigious International Film Festival of India is scheduled to be held in Panjim, Goa from Nov. 20th to Nov. 28th in the year 2018 and an absolute delight for film buffs to attend.
Spicing up the Goa’s music landscape in December will be the annual Goa International Jazz Live Festival (GIJLF), an experimental, up-tempo, funky celebration of contemporary jazz & part of Teamwork Arts’
The 2018 edition, will sparkle with a combination of brilliant international & Indian acts.
